Irvine Park and Zoo
This project was in partnership with the UWEC History Department. Students as part of their masters program did local research in order to create an exhibit for the Irvine Park and Zoo in Chippewa Falls, WI. The professor partnered with me in order to display these students’ hard work in a meaningful way. With a limited budget, we were able to create a series of popup banners, wall displays, and display tags.
In working with the museum staff I also learned they were in desperate need of a logo. They requested separate logos for the park and zoo in order to distinguish the areas.
For the park logo I wanted to incorporate the native tall pine trees that stretch across the 318 acres. The name of the park includes lots of vertical lines that morph into the trees, almost acting as a root system. The pine green color fit the trees and title perfectly.
The zoo logo was more difficult. There are many different animals that the tiny zoo hosts and the staff wasn’t sure what to include. After careful discussion we decided the most iconic were the bison that roamed across a majority of the zoo. They had been the first animals housed at the zoo after all. Moving to color, I decided to include the beautiful fall colors and sunshine the park sees during the diverse seasons of northern Wisconsin.
